Canal Istanbul is one of the mega transportation investment projects and Turkey's most strategic project plans in 2021 to eliminate the increasing risk posed by ships carrying dangerous stuff through the Bosphorus.
The Canal Istanbul called “The Crazy Project” was first introduced by president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2011 and the features of the project have been kept secret for some time.

The Canal Istanbul which will be built in the European part between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara has a 20.75 meters depth. 6 bridges will also be built on the Canal Istanbul.
Erdogan, the President of the Republic of Turkey also said that with the completion of the Basaksehir-Baghchehshir-Hadimkoyi section of the project, carbon emissions will be reduced by 32,126 tons and a total of 717.2 million Turkish Liras will be saved annually in terms of time and fuel.
