Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the housing sales statistics for 2021. While house sales decreased by 0.5 percent in 2021, the highest sales were made in Istanbul. Istanbul real estate is among the most preferred ones in Turkey.
On the other hand, housing sales to foreigners in Turkey, raised by 43.5 percent in 2021 compared to 2020, and Iranian citizens were at the forefront of those who chose Turkey for real estate investment.
Housing sales decreased by 0.5 percent in 2021 compared to 2020 and amounted to 1 million 491 thousand 856 houses.
While 276 thousand 223 houses were sold in Istanbul, Ankara followed Istanbul with 144 thousand 104 sales and Izmir with 86 thousand 722 sales.
The provinces with the lowest number of house sales were Hakkari with 267 houses, Ardahan with 377 houses and Bayburt with 871 houses.
Housing sales to foreigners in Turkey increased by 43.5 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year and reached 58 thousand 576.
In 2021, the share of house sales to foreigners in total house sales was 3.9 percent. Istanbul took first place in house sales to foreigners with 26,469 house sales, followed by Antalya with 12,384 house sales and Ankara with 3,672 house sales.
Iranian citizens bought 10 thousand 56 houses in Turkey in 2021. Iran was followed by the citizens of Iraq with 8 thousand 661 residences and the citizens of the Russian Federation with 5 thousand 379 residences.
In recent years the Turkish citizenship program is very popular among foreigners. Real estate buyers and investors apply for Turkish citizenship by real estate investment. Iranian citizens bought 10 thousand 56 houses from Turkey in 2021.
Iran was followed by the citizens of Iraq with 8 thousand 661 residences and the citizens of the Russian Federation with 5 thousand 379 residences.
Women bought 506 thousand 495, Men 819 thousand 730 houses
in Turkey, in 2021, women-owned 506 thousand 495 houses with a share of 34.0 percent, men-owned 819 thousand 730 houses with a share of 54.9 percent, while 28 thousand 900 houses were purchased jointly by women and men with a share of 1.9 percent.
In Istanbul, which has the highest share in the total housing sales in Turkey in 2021; women bought 83 thousand 226 houses, men 142 thousand 120 houses, women and men bought 6 thousand 962 houses jointly.
