The Turksat 5A communication satellite, launched in January, started to serve with the ceremony held at the Golbasi campus of Turksat, with the participation of President Erdogan.
Turksat 5A was launched into space on January 8 from Cape Canaveral Base in Florida, USA.
Now Turkey is taking place among the top 10 countries in the field of satellite communications in the world. Turksat 5A, which will carry Turkey to the league of the leading countries in satellite communication, is ready for duty.
Turksat 5A is a telecommunications satellite operated for commercial and military purposes by Turksat A. Ş.
According to an agreement signed in September 2011, the satellite was produced by Turkish specialists in cooperation with the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in Ankara and with 20% of the native technology developed in Turkey. Turksat 5A is the first domestic communications satellite built in Turkey.
At the beginning of 2013, it was reported that Mitsubishi Electric (MELCO) of Japan, which was building the Turkast 4A and Turkast 4B satellite operating systems, might join the project, but on November 9, 2017, Airbus Defense and Space was selected to build Turksat 5A satellite operating systems.
After 4 months of travel, the satellite went into orbit 31 degrees east. The one-and-a-half-month test period was also successfully completed.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu said that during this period when Turkey improved its speed in the field of space studies as well as in satellite technologies, the production, integration, testing and launch processes of new and domestic communication satellites were intertwined.
Underlining that Turkey is on the way to become an international player in the field of satellite and space studies, Karaismailoglu stated that they are always updating their strategic communication systems in terms of broadcasting and internet access services and that they offer the innovations required by the time to the citizens simultaneously with the world
.
President Erdogan said, the design and production stages of the Turksat 5Bsatellite have been successfully completed and testing is underway. We plan to launch this satellite in the last quarter of 2021.
We also plan to launch the Turksat 6A satellite, which is in the testing phase, next year. The capacity of the Turksat 5B satellite is more than the capacity of all current satellites in the country and with the start of its operation, the communication capacity of Turkey will increase 15 times further.
The Turksat 5A Communication Satellite will Serve for 30 Years
Karaismailoglu pointed out that the satellite will carry Turkey to the league of the leading countries using Ku-Band in the data communication service with television broadcasting. Karaismailoglu said, thanks to its electric propulsion system of Turksat 5A it will provide services in TV broadcasting and communication fields for more than 30 years.
